Wine Review: This slightly opaque and very dark ruby colored Cabernet Franc based blend from J. Lohr opens with a black plum and black currant bouquet with hints of red licorice, sage, and cedar. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, silky smooth, and caressing. The flavor profile is black cherry and ripe red raspberry blend with notes of oak, red licorice, and green tea. We also detected hints of vanilla, blackberry, and stone dust. The finish is dry, and its well-managed moderate refined tannins linger for quite some time. We would pair this sophisticated red blend with grilled hanger steak or with a flourless chocolate cake. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: J. Lohr "Cuvée St. E" captures the savory side of the classic Bordeaux varieties. Sophisticated blueberry and raspberry compote aromas mingle with wild sage, cacao nib, and espresso. On the palate, fresh plum and black cherry flavors wrap around a dusty tannin core leaving a long, pleasing finish. A perfect pairing for filet mignon with a shallot-cream sauce or braised veal shanks over a bed of polenta.
