Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Saint-Macaire from J. Lohr opens with a prune and black licorice bouquet with hints of pencil lead, espresso, and violets. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, and dense. The flavor profile is a concentrated blackberry and black licorice blend with notes of black plum, blueberry, and oak. I also detected hints of black olive, espresso, and stone dust. The finish is dry, and its smooth and dusty tannins and flavors are nicely sustained. I would pair this Saint-Macaire with braised short ribs or with barbecue brisket. Enjoy - KWGTP
