Wine Review: This smooth and stylish Cabernet Franc from Herman Weimer is ink colored and medium bodied. The earthy blackberry and plum bouquet is inviting and includes some minerality, oak, herbs and black cherries. The earthiness carries through on the palate and includes black cherry cola, ripe berries, light green peppers and crushed black pepper with integrated tannins and nice acidity. This food friendly Cab Franc from the Finger Lakes of New York has fine balance and nicely layered structure with a smooth slightly dry lingering finish. I would enjoy this wonderful wine with herb encrusted rack of lamb. - Joe
Winemaker Notes: Cabernet Franc is often used as a base for a blend, but the region is proving that the grape stands well on its own as a full-bodied wine. An alluring black cherry color and a compelling nose precede a palate that is generous and round, marked by vivacious berry flavors, along with savory earth notes and a full structure. Firm tannins grip the tongue, then soften into a flavorsome, pungent finish.
