Wine Review: Dark ruby in color, this red wine from Portugal presents with cherry and strawberry aromas accompanied by hints of eucalyptus and fennel seed. There is ample cherry again on the palate framed by red apple and pomegranate. The blend (50% Alicante Bouschet, 30% Touriga Nacional, 10% Syrah, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) works well, but the medium oak and heavy tannins seem to overwhelm the light body, robbing it of depth. The finish is a bit wispy but the flavors and black pepper notes last for quite a while. The wine paired well with sausage and roasted red peppers over gemelli pasta. - Jeoff
