Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from Handley is an absolute fruit bomb. It opens with fragrant black raspberry bouquet with hints of plum and blackberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, slightly acidic and very fruit forward. The flavor profile is an extracted blackberry with notes of integrated minerality and black raspberry. I also detected hints of cola and a touch of oak. The finish is dry and its flavors are nicely prolonged. This very rich Pinot is what panel member Bob would describe as a classic cigar wine to enjoy by the pool on cool summer night. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: This wine has aromas of black cherry, forest floor, ripe plums with hints of cinnamon. In the mouth there are flavors of blue fruits, black cherry with a little cola and currant. It has an intense brambly dark character. Small amounts of clone 667 and pommard provide additional complexity. The 2010 vintage with its velvety texture and deep fruit flavors, good acid and soft tannins is wonderful to drink on its own or to pair with food. Try it with cheese or dishes featuring lamb, duck, or wild mushrooms.
