Wine Review: This pale straw-colored Auslese level Riesling from Fritz Haag opens with a ginger and orange zest bouquet with hints of dried apricot. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with plus acidity. We also found it to be velvety. The flavor profile is sweet tea and ginger blend with notes of pineapple. We also detected some hints of minerality, green apple and asparagus mixed in. The finish is sweet, and its flavors linger and last for a very long time. The Panel would pair this Riesling with pound cake. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Auslese is a special selection of late picked, very ripe clusters that have been affected by the concentrating effects of botrytis. It is a rich and very ripe style of Riesling, with a lively interplay between fruity sweetness and vibrant acidity. A nobly sweet, special-selection Riesling whose extraordinary grace and elegance earned the “gold capsule” designation. The Goldkapsel designation is reserved for the very finest Auslese picking that a Grosse Lage vineyard produces in a particular vintage.
