Wine Review: This ruby colored Zinfandel was deemed to be a friendly Zin by the panel. It opens with a very mild strawberry bouquet with hints of blackberry and toasted oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied and soft. Its flavor profile is a gentle plum with hints of black licorice. As a matter of fact this wine got more interesting as it opened up in the glass. It finishes dry and its mild tannins linger nicely. The panel suggested pairing this food friendly Zin with pork tenderloin or rabbit stew. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Pleasantly devious mischief abounds from the dry-farmed, head pruned, old vine vineyards in the Shenendoah Valley. This Sierra Foothill valley is renowned for its old vine Zin vineyards, where fiery red volcanic soils produce fruit with intense, earthy character. The 100-plus-year old vines of the original Grandpere Vineyard, along with the 40-year old vines of The Deaver and Linstead Vineyards produce a wine that is chewy and spicy, rich with blackberry fruit and a hint of velvet vanilla oak. Blended with a touch of Syrah from the Bailey Vineyard. Maverick... The Jam Bomb... mischievous fun!
