Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Syrah from Flanagan opens with a boysenberry and black plum bouquet with hints of black licorice nips, violets, black raspberry, and cured meat. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, round, slightly lush, and nicely coats your mouth. The flavor profile is a black plum and graphite blend with notes of gentle oak and wild strawberry. We also detected hints of violets, cola, and cinnamon. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and moderate firm tannins build-up and stick around for a very long time. The Tasting Panel would pair this very appealing Syrah with a slow roasted pork shoulder or with Point Reyes “Original Blue” and candied walnuts. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The Syrah from our original vineyard site in Bennett Valley is always excellent and 2022 is no exception. The nose displays spice, black cherry blossom, nutmeg, and leather. On the palate there are notes of pomegranate, cranberry, black raspberry, and ripe black plum. This is an elegant, beautifully integrated wine. It is also a wine that pairs very well with a range of dishes. My favorite is a garlic and rosemary leg of lamb with lots of savory root vegetables!
