Wine Review: This deep ruby colored Syrah from Flanagan opens with a cured meat, black olive, and black plum bouquet with hints of earthy red beet, and tomato leaf. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, silky, and easy to drink. The flavor profile is crushed stone, smoked meat, and blueberry blend with notes of oak and Earl Grey tea. We also picked up some hints of black licorice and white pepper in the mix. The finish is dry and its flavors and moderate refined tannins drift away nicely. The Tasting Panel would pair this Syrah with smoked brisket or braised sort ribs. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The 2019 Flanagan Syrah from Bennett Valley has the characteristic savory bouquet we get year after year. It opens with notes of cinnamon, coriander, and bay leaf. The palate has pomegranate, sage, and a remarkable savory note. As always, the wine has a surprising amount of tannin structure for Syrah from the New World. The site for our Syrah in Bennett Valley produces ripe, generous, complex fruit and retains great acids. The small berries produced from the steep, volcanic hillside site gives the wine great color and concentration. This is a wine that can stand proudly with top Syrah from around the world!
