Wine Review: This deep purple colored Syrah from Flanagan is terrific. It opens with a new leather and mild blueberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, rich and savory. The flavor profile is a spicy ripe blackberry with notes of smoked beef and oak. I also detected hints of black pepper, clove and earthy and flinty minerality. The finish is dry and its moderate dusty tannins stick around and show very nice length. This Syrah is very enjoyable on its own. With food it would pair well with a hearty dish like Daube de Boeuf or beef bourguignon. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2017 Flanagan Syrah from Bennett Valley has the characteristic savory bouquet we get year after year. It opens with notes of cinnamon, coriander, and bay leaf. The palate has pomegranate, sage, and a remarkable savory note. As always, the wine has a surprising amount of tannin structure for Syrah from the New World.
