Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Syrah from Flanagan is a big boy. It opens with a mild root beer like bouquet with hints of blueberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and smooth. The flavor profile is an allspice, mild clove, Slim Jim and mild blackberry tea blend with hints of black pepper. The dusty dry tannins on this Syrah are sticky and long. I would certainly decant it for an hour+ to try to tame the tannins and let the flavors evolve and better express themselves. Then I would pair this Syrah with a well marbled-ribeye. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Our 2015 Syrah reflects the riper character on the 2015 vintage. The wine shows classic Rhone aromatics of pepper, roasted red meat, and savory herbs. The palate has rich layers of blue and black fruits with a hint of clove. This is my favorite wine to do pairings with because it is so versatile. Lamb and duck are obvious choices (but good ones), and it handles spice better than Cabernet. It also handles the acidity of tomatoes better than most red wines. This is a wine to enjoy for the next 15 years.
