Wine Review: This Merlot finished in 3rd place in our Big Blind tasting. It is slightly opaque and dark ruby colored. It opens with a black currant bouquet with a hint of plum, cherry, and black pepper. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, well balanced, and satiny. The flavor profile is a mild black currant with integrated old oak with a dash of cinnamon. The finish is dry and its mild tannins are pleasantly gentle. The panel thought this Merlot is ideal for the short term with food. They suggested pairing it with meatloaf or beef bourguignonne. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Select lots of grapes were chosen from our vineyards in Sonoma County to create this beautifully-balanced and full-bodied 2007 Ferrari-Carano Merlot. This is a velvety wine with a complex nose of fresh cherries, pomegranate and rhubarb pie, accented by intricately woven flavors of strawberry, brown sugar and créme brulee. This wine delights with a medium bodied mid palate, generous and approachable mouthwatering tannins, and a sweet, lively, smooth finish. It is a perfect wine to pair with any red meat course or Italian entrée.
