Wine Review: This slightly opaque dark ruby colored Zinfandel opens with a fragrant pomegranate and black cherry bouquet with a hint of menthol. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, and juicy. The flavor profile is a ripe blueberry with notes nicely integrated oak and mild minerality. I also detected a hint of black licorice and blackberry. The finish is dry and its mild tannins make it food friendly. This Zin would pair well with a tangy pulled pork sandwich. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2009 Shamrock is a well structured mountain Zinfandel with aromas and flavors of dried cherries, blackberries and an underbelly of vanilla bean, toast and spice. Shamrock Vineyard sits at 2,800 feet on a southern facing edge of Farley Peak in the northernmost region of Mendocino County. In this rugged and challenging environment the berries grow small, dense and concentrated delivering a powerhouse of full and rich flavors.
