Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from Dutton Goldfield opens with a black plum and black raspberry bouquet with hints of loam, coffee, and walnut. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, juicy and fresh. The flavor profile is blueberry and green tea with notes of chalky minerality, cola and pomegranate. We also detected some hints of oak, raspberry, and mushroom. The finish is dry, and its flavors and acidity drift away nicely. This wine benefits from some aeration. I would decant it for a bit to allow its flavors to express themselves and shine. We would then pair this Pinot with a pan-seared duck breast with berry sauce and a wild mushroom risotto. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The vibrant berry, baking spices, and plush mouthfeel that define Emerald Ridge are perfectly exemplified in the 2021 vintage. Leading aromas of black raspberry and dried cranberry are framed by sweet toffee and light lavender notes. The balanced, smooth, and energetic mouth is lifted with red berry compote on the first sip. Blueberry and pomegranate follow, riding on a velvety blanket of fine tannins. Forest floor and savory spice carry the lengthy finish, framing the juicy berries and lively acidity. Counterpoint the fruit with savory dishes like stuffed mushrooms, bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin, roasted duck, and cheeses like aged cheddar and Asiago.
