Wine Review: This ruby colored Pinot from Dutton Goldfield is one of my favorite so far from their 2009 vintage. It opens with a fragrant black currant bouquet with notes of black raspberry and beets. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, slightly acidic, rather juicy and fruit forward. The favor profile is a tasty mild raspberry with hints of oak and strawberry. The finish is dry and its fine tannins are elegant. This very refined Pinot would pair well with veal scallopini. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: How fitting that after a hiatus due to wild fires on the north coast in 2008, the superlative vineyard for 2009 was McDougall. Aromas of Bing cherry, cranberry and pomegranate lead to nuances of chipped granite and sassafras. The impression in the mouth is that of exceptionally sweet but substantial, dusty tannins, which support the candied toffee/cherry and berry fruit. The tannins and acidity carry the floral and mineral notes though the lengthy, lively finish. The final impression is one of integration and completeness. Enjoy this wine now and for the next decade with grass-fed beef.
