Wine Review: This ruby colored Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley opens with a mulberry and red currant bouquet with hints of cigar box and maraschino cherry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is round, bright, and savory. The flavors profile is a spiced red plum and mulberry blend with notes of red licorice. I also detected some hints of herbal tea and sauteed mushrooms. The finish is dry and its flavors and acidity drift away nicely. This Pinot Noir would pair very nicely with seared duck breast with cherries and port sauce. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The deep ruby color of the Thomas Road is consistent with previous vintages, which speaks to the both the winemaker style and the vineyard properties. This opens with a whiff of currants that drift into forest floor aromas of mushroom, moss, and cedar, reminiscent of the nearby Armstrong woods on a cool morning. The truffle flavors on the palate are accentuated by plush tannins that make this a Cabernet lovers Pinot Noir. Food pairing opportunities are endless: venison, truffle pasta, and duck risotto would be excellent choices.
