Wine Review: The Duckhorn portfolio was one of the highlights at the Boston Wine Expo. This dark red colored Merlot from the Three Palms Vineyard was their top showing wine. It opens with an attractive mild blueberry bouquet with a hint of acai berry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and smooth. The flavor profile is a delicious blueberry with notes of gentle minerality and acai. I also detected hints of some red plum in the background. The finish is dry and its refined tannins drift away nicely. This impressive Merlot is very food friendly and approachable. I would pair it with a filet mignon at your favorite steak restaurant in the next couple of years. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2013 growing season yielded a riveting expression of Three Palms Vineyard Merlot, with a rich entry and pure and polished flavors of cherry, cassis, pomegranate, and blackberry. On the palate, these gorgeous fruit elements mingle with complex layers of leather, wet river rock, eucalyptus and black tea. Warm earthy notes finesse the finish while dense, fine-grained tannins provide wonderful length.
