Wine Review: This elegant GG level dry Riesling from the Rheingau region of Germany is a pale golden yellow color, which has a fragrant bouquet of pineapple, flint, white peach, and a hint of lemongrass. On the palate, it is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel has good balance, is round, is poised, and polished. I found flavors of white peach, fresh apricot, wet stone, honeydew melon, and a touch of ash. The finish is refreshing, dry and the minerality lingers for quite a while. Serve this versatile dry Riesling with herb roasted heritage pork loin with baked apples. - Mark
Winemaker Notes: The Grosse Gewächs is the dry tip of the quality pyramid: strictly demarcated, classified plots, selective hand-picking, from the steep slope. A strict set of rules and tests guarantee quality. This offering is quite firm, somewhat herbal-vegetable and still a hint of yeasty scent with clear, relatively cool yellow fruity aromas and floral traces. Clear, polished, and juicy, not entirely dry fruit, very fine acidity, yeasty and herbal nuances, good substance and sustainability, a hint of dark berries, also prominent mineral tones, certain depth, still young, very good, firm, juicy and mineral finish with herbal and floral nuances.
