Wine Review: This almost clear colored Riesling from Dr. Loosen opens with a faint lime bouquet with hints of lychee, peonies, and white peach. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated and well-managed medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is round, slightly viscous, bright, and fresh. The flavor profile is tangy lime and saline blend with notes of passionfruit and lychee. We also detected hints of ginger, white grapefruit, and a touch of vanilla in the aftertaste. The finish is barely off dry and refreshing. The Tasting Panel would enjoy this Riesling on its own. With dessert try it with Stuart’s citrus infused summer cheesecake. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: A lusciously exotic, select-harvest Riesling made with botrytis-affected grapes from the “spice garden” vineyard. Auslese [OWS-lay-zuh] means "selected from the harvest," and is a sweet wine made from very ripe clusters that are about 50 percent affected by botrytis. The resulting wine is dense, intensely flavored, and rich on the palate, but balanced by Riesling’s naturally brisk acidity. The red volcanic soil of the Ürziger Würzgarten vineyard produces wines with precocious tropical fruits, a rich texture, and a pleasingly persistent finish.
