Wine Review: This white gold-colored "GG" dry Riesling from Dr. Loosen opens with a green apple and green melon bouquet with hints of passion fruit, jasmine, and lemon. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with plus acidity. The mouthfeel is round, racy, bright, and vibrant. The flavor profile is light grapefruit and lime blend with notes of chalky minerality and white peach. We also detected some hints of lemon and white tea. The finish is dry, and its flavors and acidity linger nicely. The Tasting Panel would serve this dry Riesling chilled with a cold crab cocktail. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: A sleek and refined dry Riesling from 100-year-old, ungrafted vines in the red slate soil of the "little staircase" vineyard. The Erdener Treppchen vineyard produces wines that are muscular and complex, with an intense mineral finish. Grosses Gewächs (GG) simply means “great growth” and is the designation for an estate's best dry wine from a Grosse Lage (grand cru) vineyard. From a parcel of extremely old vines ("alte Reben"), this wine was kept on the full lees for a year before bottling. The extended maturation time allows the wine to develop greater texture and a natural harmony.
