Wine Review: This pale straw colored Auslese level Riesling from Dr. Loosen opens with a pineapple, orange peel and lemon iced tea bouquet with hints of apricot and florals. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, very smooth, viscous, and brisk. The flavor profile is a very tasty pineapple and apricot blend with notes of saline and ginger. We also detected some hints of lemon iced tea and peach mixed in as well. The finish is pleasantly sweet, and its flavors linger nicely. The Tasting Panel would have this delicious Auslese on its own for dessert. However, we also thought you could enjoy it with a white cake topped with red raspberries. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: A gorgeous, nobly sweet, and cellar-worthy Riesling, made from a special selection of botrytis-affected clusters. The German word Auslese [pronounced OWS-lay-zuh] means "selected from the harvest," and is a luscious, limited-production sweet wine made from very ripe clusters that are about 50 percent affected by botrytis (in the red picking bucket, above). The wine is dense, intensely flavored, and rich on the palate, but balanced by Riesling's naturally crisp acidity and the muscular structure that comes from the red slate soil of the Erdener Treppchen vineyard.
