Wine Review: This almost clear to pale straw-colored Riesling initially displays a few bubbles in the glass. It opens with a Vaseline and gentle apricot bouquet. On the palate, this wine is light bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and fresh. The flavor profile is a crushed stone minerality and saline blend with notes of lime and yellow grapefruit. I also detected some hints of nectarine pit. The finish is dry, and its flavors and acidity linger for a while. I would pair this dry-styled Riesling with oysters. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: When describing the 2020 vintage overall, Erni concludes that "the 2020 vintage should be a showcase for the typical mineral structure of Mosel Riesling". This dry Riesling from the 2020 vintage is produced with fruit from estate-owned vineyards in the red slate soils found in the contiguous Middle Mosel villages of Ürzig, Erden, Lösnich and Kinheim. Following the traditional methods of Ernst Loosen's great-grandfather, Peter Loosen, this wine is fermented in 3,000-liter, neutral oak casks and kept on the full lees for 12 months. The extended lees contact stabilizes the wine naturally and gives it time to develop a harmonious balance. The result is a well-balanced dry Riesling showing off its distinct and forceful minerality.
