Wine Review: This dark amber colored 20-Year-Old Tawny Port from Dow opens with a toasted pecan and espresso bouquet with hints of caramel and anise. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is round, slightly viscous, vibrant, and zesty. The flavor profile is toasted walnut and fig blend with notes of oolong tea, hazelnut liquor, and cedar. We also detected hints of molasses and honey. The finish is dry and shows just a little bit of heat. The heat does soften with some aeration, so leave the cork off for a while and do some swirling before serving it. The Tasting Panel would pair this 20-Year-Old Tawny Port with Boma’s French toast bread pudding with a pecan praline sauce. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: With a polished brown center and orange amber edges, this wine has a honeysuckle scent with discreet butterscotch notes. Refined and balanced on the palate, flinty and mellowed tannins meld with concentrated red berry fruit and lifted mineral freshness. Nuanced flavors of tobacco lead to a focused, dry finish. Dow’s 20-Year-Old Tawny pairs well with nuts, dried fruits and fruitcake. Serve slightly chilled. It will last for up to one month once open.
