Wine Review: This very dark ruby colored Nero d’Avola and Frappato blend from Sicily opens with a blackberry and black licorice bouquet with hints of moist pipe tobacco and pencil lead. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, smooth, and easy to drink. The flavor profile is black plum and smoky oak blend with notes of blackberry and tobacco. I also detected hints of black tea, black licorice, and black pepper. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and moderate dusty tannins stick around for a little while. I would pair this Italian red blend with Italian briciole or with Jiko’s wild boar tenderloin.
