Wine Review: This midnight blackish purple colored wine from South Africa opens with black licorice, tar, blackberry, and beef stick bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and smooth. The flavor profile is a mineral influenced blackberry and cedar blend with notes of black tea and cassis. I also detected hints of beef jerky, black licorice and black pepper towards the end. The finish is rather dry and its moderate tannins are nicely prolonged. This wine would pair very nicely with the grilled wild boar tenderloin at Jiko or duck confit. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: This Merlot dominant Bordeaux blend showcases aromas of red fruits, mulberries and blueberries, with subtle cedar and spice notes and a hint of aniseed on the nose. These aromas follow through perfectly on the palate, revealing pure juicy red fruit, berries and plum. This complex, vibrant and expressive red displays velvety, finely knit tannins… just as one would expect from a Merlot-led blend!
