Wine Review: This slightly opaque and dark red colored blend from Stellenbosch opens with fragrant and attractive black cherry and blueberry bouquet with a hint of oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, juicy and fruit forward. The flavor profile is a tasty plum and gentle black raspberry blend with notes of nicely integrated minerality and oak in the background. I also detected hints of strawberry licorice in the background. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins build up and stick around for quite a while. This wine would pair nicely with the wild boar at Jiko. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The Cape's first five-varietal Bordeaux blend, Fusion V has become one of South Africa’s most sought-after and iconic bottlings. The nose reveals vibrant, tightly knit aromas of creamy black and red berries, with supporting nuances of dark, bitter chocolate, leather, cedar as well as hints of black pepper. The palate is very elegantly packaged, a true left bank Bordeaux styled blend, showing amazing concentration and complexity as well as restraint. The wine entices with flavors of clean black and red fruit, a perfectly balanced acidity, finished off with fine, integrated tannins.
