Wine Review: This very dark ruby colored Shiraz from Darioush was our clear winner in our recent Big Blind tasting. It opens with a pleasant blueberry bouquet with hints of toasted vanilla oak. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced, rich, smooth and fruit forward. The flavor profile is an extracted blueberry and oak blend with notes of black pepper and blackberry. The panel also detected some hints of minerality and dark chocolate as well. The finish is dry and its moderate dusty tannins are nicely extended and stick around for a little while. The panel suggested big Cab fans will love this Shiraz. They would pair this food friendly gem with a New York strip steak with roasted Brussel sprouts. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: This fruit complexity broadens on the palate with blackberry jam and licorice deftly balanced with hints of baker's cocoa, espresso and sweet oak. The wine’s exquisite sense of proportion connotes careful vinification techniques, and its supple tannins and lingering finish will reward extended cellaring.
