Wine Review: This opaque and deep purple colored Malbec from DAOU opens with a black cherry-cola and violet bouquet with hints of boysenberry, chocolate, and graphite. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, round, rich and concentrated. The flavor profile is an extracted blackberry jam and stony minerality with notes of boysenberry and integrated oak. We also detected hints of black raspberry, candied violets, and spice mixed in. The finish is dry, and its flavors and dusty tannins linger and last for a very long time. The Tasting Panel would pair this Malbec with cigar and a fireplace. With food we suggest decanting this wine for a bit, before pairing it with braised short ribs. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The 2021 DAOU Estate Malbec comes exclusively from our DAOU Mountain terroir a benchmark for Bordeaux varieties from the Adelaida District. An opaque ruby-purple sets the tone in the glass. Fruit-driven aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, and blueberry yield to secondary scents of violet, rosemary, cured meat, pomegranate, and mineral. The palate is fresh and floral with flavors of mulled blueberry, coffee, and toasted coconut. Delicate tannins unfurl into a silky, elegant finish.
