Wine Review: This dark garnet colored Cabernet Franc from DAOU opens with a black cherry and ripe red raspberry bouquet with hints of violets and earthy loam. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, lush and approachable. The flavor profile is brambly berry and graphite blend with notes of oak and black currant. We also picked up some hints of black tea and licorice. The finish is dry, and its integrated dusty tannins are nicely sustained. The Tasting Panel would pair this very versatile Cab Franc with grilled lamb chops. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The 2021 DAOU Estate Cabernet Franc reflects how this classic Bordeaux variety excels on DAOU Mountain, where our calcareous-clay soils are reminiscent of the Right Bank. An opaque ruby-purple hue yields to aromas of violet, blueberry, blackberry, and cassis, all trailed by hints of toasted nuts, graphite, strawberry, and sage. Flavors of pomegranate, freshly crushed blueberries and stony granite are framed by bright, velvety tannins. Fresh acidity carries into a long, layered finish.
