Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Petit Verdot based blend from DAOU opens with a road asphalt and blackberry bouquet with hints of lilac and cherry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, and silky. The flavor profile is blackberry and boysenberry pie blend with notes of black licorice and graphite. We also detected hints of green tea, purple grape, and rum raisin. The finish is dry, and its well-managed medium fine tannins are nicely sustained. The Tasting Panel would pair this fireplace red blend with a grilled hanger steak. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The 2021 Bodyguard is the latest masterwork from Winemaker Daniel Daou. Bold and brooding, it displays a dark purple hue. Aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, berry jam, tobacco and maple syrup reveal trailing scents of pepper, campfire, and chocolate-covered red fruit. The palate entry is big and broad, displaying rich flavors of freshly crushed berries, cured meat and spice. Concentrated dark fruit flavors extend into a sleek, lengthy finish.
