Wine Review: This garnet colored Pinot Noir from the Solomon Hills Vineyard opens with a fragrant strawberry and potting soil bouquet with hints of black raspberry, red cherry, and loam. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium acidity. The mouthfeel is silky smooth, elegant, and savory. The flavor profile is a cranberry, loam, and black raspberry blend with notes of oolong tea, minerality, and black pepper. We also detected hints of spiced red plum and oak. The finish is dry, and its moderate tannins stick around for quite a while. The Panel would pair this rustic Pinot with a wild boar ragu or duck confit. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: This limited-edition Pinot Noir comes exclusively from the famed Solomon Hills Vineyard, the westernmost vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley, just 11 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Winemaker Daniel Daou believes that favorable conditions in 2019 allowed him to produce our best wine yet from this revered vineyard. This is a wine that manages to ring every bell of a world-class Pinot Noir: elegant and powerful, yet feminine and pleasureful, with beautiful purity through the finish. While approachable now, it will continue to evolve gracefully in the bottle over the next several years.
