Wine Review: This opaque and very dark ruby colored Cabernet from Rutherford opens with a mild black cherry bouquet with a hint of strawberry and cedar. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, and smooth. The flavor profile is a mild pomegranate with hints of dried cherry and strawberry. I also detected a hint of oak as well. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are nicely managed and slightly prolonged. This Cab would pair well with grilled Colorado lamb chops with an herb marinade. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The D. R. Stephens Estate 2010 Walther River Block represents new heights for this bottling. The black fruit character of the vintage has added extra depth and concentration to the already heady combination of power and richness this wine always demonstrates. The nose of blackberry jam, cherry pit, bramble, vanilla and dark chocolate dominates the senses. The palate is comprised of the classic Walther power and depth, with notes of black cherry, plum compote, nutmeg, and graham cracker crust, with dense flavors and admirable richness, while spice and floral characteristics provide lift and a sense of liveliness. This is a perfect wine for fans of richness, power and aromatics.
