Wine Review: This dark ruby colored “Ancient Vines” Zinfandel from Cline opens with a dark chocolate and brambly dark berry fruit bouquet with a hint of cedar. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, smooth and fresh. The flavor profile is a black raspberry, ripe wild strawberry, and mocha blend with notes of cinnamon and vanilla. I also detected a hint of root beer in the after taste. The finish is dry, and its flavors and well-managed tannins are nicely prolonged. This fruit forward Zin would pair very nicely with a juicy grilled Angus burger smothered with a blueberry BBQ sauce. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2020 Ancient Vines Zinfandel shows the varietal strawberry character that Zinfandel is known for. Well balanced and fresh with a touch of plum and black pepper make for a very enjoyable glass of wine. Very drinkable now but will age well for 5-7 years or longer. Accompany this wine with slow-cooked BBQ pork, chicken mole, or spinach mushroom casserole.
