Wine Review: This dark garnet colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Charles Krug opens with a fragrant green olive and black raspberry bouquet with hints of apricot, menthol, and jalapeno pepper. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, smooth, youthful, and a bit tight. The flavor profile is a Taza chocolate and cinnamon blend with notes of elderberry and orange zest. We also detected hints of red plum, cedar, and a touch of wintergreen in the aftertaste. The finish is dry, and its flavors and medium dusty tannins last for quite some time. The Tasting Panel would recommend decanting this Cab for a bit, before pairing it with a Kona crusted strip steak or with duck confit. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Rising 1,650 feet above the Napa Valley floor on the southwest side of Howell Mountain, the Mondavi family estate vineyard producing the grapes for this wine sits above the fog line during the growing season. The distinctive climate, along with volcanic and iron-rich red soils, produce fruit with great balance and intensity. This wine displays aromas of cigar, tobacco leaf, black tea leaf, pomegranate, black cherry, with hints of blueberry and blackberry pie. It has lush and creamy tannins, with a finish of brown sugar and molasses.
