Wine Review: This red blend from Chalk Hill was our third favorite wines at this year's Meritage Madness wine dinner. It opens with a very fragrant black raspberry bouquet with a hint of oak and beet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, very smooth, and elegant. The flavor profile is a gentle black currant with notes of beautifully integrated oak and a hint of black pepper. The finish is dry and its mild dusty tannins linger slightly. This classy wine is food friendly and went well with our lamb. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Deep, dark and dense, our 2008 Estate Red has a compelling bouquet packed with cherries, cassis, blackberries and cardamom. The palate is lush and concentrated with layers of blackberries, blueberries, hazelnut and cocoa. The supporting tannins are nicely concealed by the lush, opulent texture. While it shows surprisingly well now, this wine will only get better with time.
