Wine Review: This very dark ruby colored Montepulciano opens with a mild mulberry and black cherry bouquet with a hint of cedar. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and smooth. The flavor profile is a tasty, crushed stone minerality and black cherry blend with notes of chai tea. I also detected hints of stewed plum and mocha. The finish is dry, and its dusty tannins stick around for quite some time. This Montepulciano would pair nicely with Italian braciole.
Winemaker Notes: The 2018 Cavallo di Battaglia Montepulciano d'Abruzzo bursts from the glass with heady aromas of wild blackberry, raspberry, smoked cherry, cocoa powder, and nuanced spice. The palate showcases copious soft tannins, full-bodied structure, a supple mouthfeel, and a smooth finish.
