Wine Review: This "soft" sparkling red from Italy is lightly effervescent and deep purple colored in the glass. It has aromas of sweet ripe cherry, boysenberry, violets, and strawberry cream. On the palate it is slightly frothy, semi-sweet and soft, with a medium body and light acidity. It is very fruity and refreshing. I detected flavors of cherry, candied strawberry, and red raspberry, with some very gentle oak and herbal notes. There are some very light tannins in the off-dry finish. This is a fun wine to socialize with and enjoy with a coal-fired pizza with some creative toppings or with mixed berry pie. – Mark
Winemaker Notes: Lot 841 comes to us from an 1800s-era family winery in Reggio Emilia, at the heart of Emilia-Romagna. An off-dry rustic expression of Lambrusco Salamino and Lambrusco Marani grapes. Pours a deep, deep ruby in the glass with a signature Lambrusco foam. The nose is delineated between delicate blood orange, violets, and cherry. The entry is drier for an off-dry wine, accenting cherry and rhubarb with secondary terroir flavors culminating in ethereal soft leather over medium acidity and small, polished tannins. The finish is clean and a bit dry, offering delicate wisps of cherry on exit. It's traditionally a dinner wine or aperitif. Try it with a charcuterie platter and hard cheeses, or with a pizza.
