Wine Review: This dark red colored Pinot Noir from Calera opens with black cherry, red raspberry, and chai tea bouquet with hints of flint and strawberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and savory. The flavor profile is black cherry and red plum blend with notes of mushrooms, clove spice, and chalky minerality. We also detected some hints of cedar, dried strawberry, and nutmeg. The finish is dry and its flavors and integrated fine tannins drift away nicely. The Tasting Panel would pair this Pinot with veal medallions with a brown butter sauce, a cassoulet, or with a mushroom risotto. Enjoy – KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Once again, de Villiers has produced one of the most luxurious and dark-fruited expressions of Pinot Noir from Mt. Harlan. On the nose, aromas of candied blackberry, ripe strawberry and black cherry mingle with hints of white pepper and spice. The palate is smooth and lush, with velvety tannins and dramatic flavors of robust blackberry, cedar and sassafras driving to a long, impeccably balanced finish.
