Wine Review: This dark red colored Pinot Noir from Calera is impressive! It opens with a mild strawberry bouquet with a hint of black cherry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied and nicely balanced between its fruit and acidity. The flavor profile is a tasty black plum and toasted oak blend with notes of fine-grained minerality. I also detected hints of black olive and dried beef. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are sticky and have very nice length for a Pinot. This Pinot would pair well with braised short ribs. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: As the vines at Ryan Vineyard approach 20 years of age, they continue to yield an ever more complex Pinot Noir, offering alluring layers of red cherry and sassafras, along with hints of thyme and sage. The ripe cherry notes are echoed on the palate, where they are underscored by notes of cedar and vanilla from aging in French oak, and firm, fine-grained tannins that provide lovely weight and structure.
