Wine Review: Wet slate, sagebrush and balsam incense notes rush to the nose on this inky purple Cabernet Sauvignon from the Barossa Valley. On the palate, this wine is medium-plus in body with a distinctive flavor core of Bing cherry, accompanied by black raspberry and other bramble fruits. Its talc-like minerality and pleasing oak management lead to a medium finish. The wine has depth and structure, but it comes across as young and its tannins need taming, suggesting it could benefit from a year or two in the cellar. It drinks well now with simple fare like sloppy joes or beef empanadas. – Jeoff
Winemaker Notes: Intense deep red color with a crimson edge. Fragrant with an array of mulberry fruit, black currant and a cedar nose. A full-bodied smooth palate with big notes of ripe fruit and five spices integrating with vanillin oak, providing complexity, ensuring a well-balanced, mouth-filling and flavorsome finish. Drinking well now but will cellar nicely over two years. Ideal accompaniment to roast meats, such as lamb shanks with fresh herbs including thyme, rosemary and sage.
