Wine Review: This hazy garnet-colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Brandlin opens with a very inviting vanilla and black cherry bouquet with hints of menthol, violets, and bacon. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, very smooth, seamless, and voluptuous. The flavor profile is a concentrated black currant and graphite blend with notes of cherry-cola and blueberry. We also detected hints of cedar, menthol, black licorice, and cocoa. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and its well-managed dusty tannins, build-up and stick around for quite some time. The Tasting Panel would decant this wine in the near term as it settles down the tannins. Then we would pair it with a sunset on its own. With food it would pair nicely with braised short ribs. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and bold, balanced by a bright vein of minerally acidity and velvety tannins. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon combines power and refinement, with a long, lingering finish that reflects the essence of Mt. Veeder terroir.
