Wine Review: This is a dark and savory wine from South Africa. It is a clear dark purple color and has blackberry, smoky salami, funky wet peat, vanilla and black pepper on the nose. It has a medium-plus body and medium-plus acidity. While it presents as young, it is smooth and dry. There are flavors of blackberry, blueberry, anise, clove and a hint of oak. There are fine grained tannins in the lingering spicy finish. I would pair this Syrah with a nicely charred flank steak. - Mark
Winemaker Notes: The nose shows an intriguing savory character, juxtaposed against an abundance of heady perfume, white pepper, black cherry and red plum aromas. Violets, licorice and dark berry fruit follow through onto the mid-palate, with notes of black pepper, cloves, black cardamom and star anise. The wine is balanced and focused, elegant yet complex with smooth, velvety tannins. The spicy, grippy finish lingers with hints of cocoa, black olives and violets.
