Wine Review: This inky midnight purple colored Cabernet Sauvignon from South Africa opens with a mild black currant bouquet with a hint of cedar and balsamic. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and juicy. The flavor profile is a very tasty mild smoked meat and blackberry blend with notes of gentle cedar, black currant, boysenberry, earthy minerality and black tea towards the end. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are well-managed. This well-made South African Cab would pair nicely with Kansas City style barbecue brisket burnt ends. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The nose is complex and alluring, offering red currant, black cherry and red plum aromas with whiffs of Herbes de Provence, Cape fynbos and clay dust. The red stone fruit of the nose follows through with flavors of youngberry, boysenberry, and notes of lead pencil, pipe tobacco, and tea leaf on a smooth palate. Fine-grained powdery tannins contribute to a certain nervosité on the mid-palate, juxtaposed against the opulence of fragrant fruit, firm acidity and smoky cedarwood undertones from integrated French oak. Vibrant berry fruit persists on a clean, focused finish.
