Wine Review: This pale straw-colored Chardonnay from the Gap's Crown Vineyard opens with a pear and ginger bouquet with hints of pineapple, lemon drop, and green caramel apple. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is wonderfully balanced, super smooth, creamy, and elegant. The flavor profile is tasty light lemon and pear blend notes of light oak, guava, and pineapple. We also detected some hints of gentle oak, white peach, and salinity. The finish is dry, and its flavors and gentle acidity drift away nicely. The Tasting Panel would pair this polished Chard with broiled scallops in a butter cream sauce or sole meuniere. Winemaker Notes: With the low-yielding conditions and the mix of Dijon clones in our blocks of this highly regarded vineyard, our 2021 Gap’s Crown Vineyard Chardonnay has a wonderful combination of balance and complexity. Aromas of lemon oil, Golden delicious Apple and classic mineral seashell are noticeable at first. Then the palate has incredible depth with fruit flavors of Honeycrisp apple, white peach, and Asian pear. The wine has a long and weighted finish that lingers with notes of nutmeg, a fresh-baked pie and vanilla bean. Enjoy upon release or hold for 7-10 years.
