Wine Review: This pale straw colored Chenin Blanc from South Africa opens with a pleasant mild Anjou pear bouquet with a hint of pineapple. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, slightly acidic and round. The flavor profile is a Bosc pear with notes of almond and gentle old oak. I also detected a hint of honey. The finish is dry and its flavors linger nicely. This good value Chenin Blanc would pair nicely with steamed Nova Scotia mussels. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: This exquisite barrel fermented Chenin Blanc that spent 6 months is small French oak barrels and received the traditional practice of battonage weekly. The subtle oak and crisp acid along with the zesty citrus, vibrant tropical fruit and sweet honey flavors lend superb complexity to this beautifully balanced wine. With an ageing potential of 3-5 years, if cellared correctly, this wine compliments a wide variety of fish, spicy and Mediterranean dishes but also drinks excellently on its own.
