Wine Review: This very very dark ruby colored Barbera from Banfi is a good value big boy wine. It opens with a fragrant blackberry and blueberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced, lush and nicely covers your palate. The flavor profile is rustic and concentrated. It features extracted blackberry, black licorice and black olives. I also detected notes of oak and fine minerality woven into the blend. The finish is quite dry and its moderate tannins and flavors are rather prolonged. This wine is built to sip by the fireplace on a cool evening. With food, I would serve it with an old-fashioned beef stew. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Color: Deep ruby red.
Bouquet: Fresh, fruity and complex, with notes of blackberry and plum.
Taste: Full-bodied, well balanced and dry wine with sweet tannins and fresh acidity, typical of the grape. The finish is long, with notes of fruit.
Ideal as an aperitif, and pairs with pasta, game, cold cuts and cheese.
