Wine Review: This pale straw-colored Chardonnay opens with a butterscotch, pineapple, and pear bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced and round. The flavor profile is an oak and pear blend with notes of chalky minerality and pineapple. I also detected hints of brioche, butterscotch, and green apple in the mix. The finish is dry and its flavors and acidity drift away. I would pair this Chard with New England clam chowder. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2020 Santa Barbara County Chardonnay is a beautiful example of the Au Bon Climat style. The flinty, stony aromas stand out, while in the background is an intriguing spice note of clove and nutmeg. Flavors and aromas of citrus and stone fruit are finished with a beautiful lemon/lime zest note. This wine is intense, but light on its feet and is built to compliment food, not over-power food. This wine would be perfect with shellfish or poultry.
