Wine Review: This pale-yellow colored Chardonnay from Au Bon Climat is Excellent! It opens with a fragrant oak, pineapple, and baked apple bouquet with hints of lemon zest. On palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, zesty and mouthwatering. The flavor profile is a pineapple and lemon blend with notes of gentle oak, saline and baked apple. I also detected some hints of nutmeg and a touch of butterscotch. The finish is dry, and its flavors are very nicely prolonged. This Chard went perfectly with Stefano's broiled jumbo lump crab cakes over lobster mashed potatoes with mango vinaigrette and asparagus. Winemaker Notes: A rich, luxurious Chardonnay with fruit notes of pear, nectarine, and lemon confit accompanied by chalky minerality and toasted spice. Brought up in new Francois Freres French oak barrels, it is medium-bodied, balanced, with a great mid-palate as well as impressive length.
