Wine Review: This dark red colored Pinot Noir from Au Bon Climat opens with a pomegranate and raspberry tea bouquet with hints of teaberry, cedar, and tomato leaf. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and savory. The flavor profile is a blend of pomegranate, crushed stone minerality and red plum with notes of cedar plank and raspberry tea. I also detected some hints of black pepper and teaberry gum. The finish is dry, and its flavors linger and last for quite a while. This Pinot paired well with Norwegian salmon marinated in teriyaki sauce and then grilled. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The Pinots of Santa Maria Valley appellation are known for their fragrant, spicy, ethereal bouquet. This wine does not disappoint. Aromas of Bing cherry, cranberry, red currant, rose hip and dark chocolate are apparent with an intriguing scent of underbrush buried deeper in the wine. Flavors constantly evolve starting with raspberries and moving to dark cocoa. In the background is French oak vanillin and balanced tannins. It is very focused on the palate, in a tight, racy style.
