Wine Review: This midnight purple colored red blend from Andrew Murray opens with a mild and inviting black raspberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, slightly acidic and a little juicy. The flavor profile is a ripe plum and gentle black raspberry blend with hints of mild minerality and a touch of smoked oak and dash of black pepper. The finish is dry and its flavors and fine tannins linger for a bit. This wine is food friendly and would pair nicely with slow cooked short ribs. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: This rich red is a blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, and 15% Syrah. It was given a more serious winemaking regimen with a bit more new oak. I also chose to blend in more Mourvedre and less Syrah this vintage, because the Estate Grown Mourvedre is just getting better and better as we continue to work our magic in the vineyard. I think that it is perhaps the best Esperance that we have ever released. All of the extra work yields a rich, concentrated wine with aromas and flavors of ultra-ripe strawberries, black cherries, and blueberries, mixed in with the spiciness of cinnamon and vanilla from the toasty new French oak.
